Collegiate Culinaire: St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake
A classic St. Louis dessert, straight from my mama’s cookbook! If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out a uniquely sweet treat. It’s not really a cake, but not really a breakfast pastry either. It’s different, a caloric nightmare, perfect for breakfast or brunch, and worth trying at least once.
1 box of yellow cake mix
1 stick softened butter
1 lb. powder sugar
8 oz. cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-Blend the cake mix, 2 eggs, and butter. Pour into greased oblong pan.
-Mix 2 eggs, powder sugar, cream cheese, and vanilla. Pour over the top of the cake mix.
-Bake for 35-45 minutes.
Serve chilled or hot out of the oven.
