Blue-patterned dresses may be the only way to keep cool this summer.
Some say the trend was inspired by Kate Middleton’s love for blue Issa dresses, but no matter the cause, bright blues (cobalt, royal and electric) have been popping up everywhere. And in keeping with this season’s hyper-color trend, it seems that the brighter the shade, the better.
Lovers of blue are in for another special treat: You can wear it next summer, too. This runway look by 2nd Floor comes from the 2012 Fashion Rio Summer Collection in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“Lilly Pulitzer also did a lot of blue in her series this year,” said Mimi Markel-Alderman, owner of Under the Palm Tree in Overland Park. “Our version of the dress is great for pool parties, Fourth of July bashes or even a cocktail party. It’s that flirty, fun, light throw-on dress that you could sleep in and roll out of bed the next morning still looking good.”
The Lilly Pulitzer number can be paired with neutral shoes and accessories to make a subtle statement. Or if you’re feeling bold, go runway with black gladiator pumps, dark wayfarers and a little black belt.
